I have been trading the financial markets for over 30 years. My understanding of market analysis was shaped early on by an economics professor who was also an exceptional trader, and who taught me to focus on the economic forces that drive price rather than simply reacting to charts.

Like many traders, I explored technical analysis extensively — every indicator, every oscillator, every pattern. But I soon realised a fundamental truth: most indicators only react to completed price data. If an indicator waits for price to close before calculating, it cannot truly anticipate future direction.
